Providenza is a multidisciplinary artist residency located in the midst of nature in the Corsican mountains which goal is to foster creation by promoting the breaking down of boundaries between disciplines and cultures.
Designed as a life-size experimentation field, Providenza offers an exceptional working environment where the connection with nature is a source of creativity, focus, care, and rest.
Its main program consists in an annual residency open to all disciplines, all nationalities, established as well as emergent artists. Founded informally in 2016 by friends as a secret artistic residency and festival, the event has evolved over the years with improved facilities, enabling the hosting of artists over an extended period while preserving its original spirit.
A special attention is given to cinema, music and research projects that maintain a critical and sensitive relationship with the interweaving of contemporary political and environmental issues, especially in the complex relationships that develop between the living world, human societies, and technology.
Projects
Candidates apply for projects that may belong to different disciplines but share a common approach of original formal research.
Priority is given to projects that would particularly benefit from a working time on the field. Residents are selected internationally by a jury of transdisciplinary experts. The program is open to both established international artists and emerging talents. A few spots are reserved for young local artists who wish to learn from more experienced artists.
As examples, here is a narrowed selection of projects completed during past residencies:
- Documentary film projects (Emmanuel Gras, Joshua Bonnetta)
- Fiction films (Caroline Poggi and Jonathan Vinel)
- Video art projects (Lola Gonzalez, Emilija Skarnulyte)
- Music and sound arts projects (Laurel Halo, Lafawndah, Colin Self, Bing and Ruth)
- Visual arts projects (Joanie Lemercier, Thomas Teurlai, Antonin Hako)
- Literature (Alain Damasio, Mehdi Meklat, Zoe Cosson)
- Culinary projects (Lei Sato)
- Design projects (Nicolas Becker et Samantha Caldato), etc.
